In India, a book is considered a work of art. In order to create a masterpiece that had all the elements of an Indian epic, the storyteller started by gathering materials that would convey his message. He had amulets from India’s ancient past from which he took beads of amethyst, jasper and lapis lazuli. There were also pearls and rubies which he used as symbols of royal power. The storyteller would use these materials along with copper coins and gold rings for his narrative to be whole and complete. The storyteller would take all of these materials and depict the elements in images, creating poetry which conveyed his story. The designs on paper or cloth would be painted so that the story could be seen by everyone. The illustrations were full of details, symbolic images and subtle motifs. The symbols told the tale of love, devotion and heroism while captivating the reader. One way in which these art forms were used was to create a record for future generations to learn from. This narrative was also meant to teach them about their past. It could be just based on myth or fantasy but its purpose was always to help readers better understand their history and heritage through painting and writing with ink on a page. The narrator would create the illustrations and the calligrapher would write the story. This art form was used to convey a narrative written by a monk or scholar. Most of these books were designed to be read aloud so that people could gather and hear them. It was not until later that these stories were reserved for private reading. In order for this art form to be used, there is an expert who must first design, write and paint an entire story in which many pieces come together to make one whole book. There are also historians who must interpret it for us so that other generations can understand their past. The final product is a work of art because it is full of beauty, magic and imagination. To the narrator, the book was a way for him to create art which he then gave to his audience. Kannada literature is renowned for its scientific approach towards writing. It emphasizes on speech, movement and speech gestures. Kannada speakers are known for their eloquence in speeches and debates. Mookajjiyakanasugalubookinkannada is an attempt at merging the past with the present, tradition with modernity and knowledge with wisdom. It narrates the story of King King Bittidevarasa of Banavasi that was engraved on copper plates during the 13th century A.D which was found in 1773 A. D by a shepherd named Keshavayya who resided in Hirekodige, a village in Shiggaon Taluk. The copper plates were later donated to the Jagadguru Rambhapura Matha which is located at Rambhapura near Mysuru. In ancient times, people used to engrave their scripts on metal plates because paper was yet to be invented. Thus there used to be a conflict between the calligraphy and the painting during the production of a book. In order to solve this problem, a new concept was introduced whereby both calligraphy and painting would be done on the same plate during the same period instead of working independently from one another. cfa1e77820
